More than a thousand demonstrators marched through the strip in an attempt to highlight repressive measures taken against welfare recipients by the State of Nevada. More than 9,000 individuals were erased from the welfare rolls without notice or hearing. Dr. Abernathy speaking at a Strip rally said, "We are going to have a showdown right here in the Wild West."
