- Description:
- Transcription of caption: Oct. 2, 1970 -- Hunger still hurts in Kenwood-Oakland where SCLC Operation Breadbasket distributed 1,168 bags of food. Prepared by volunteers in the Breadbasket Hunger Program, the food was distributed to an overflowing group of people at Christ the King Church, 3701 S. Lake Park. Rev. Jesse Jackson; Rev. Mrs. Willie Barrow, Director of Special Projects for Breadbasket; Ginger Mack of the Chicago Welfare Rights Organization; and Rev. Curtis Burrell of KOCO met and talked with the large numbers of people facing hunger conditions inspite of City and other hunger programs now in existence. Shown above are members of Black Men Moving aiding in the food distribution to a mother and daughter needing food.
