- This video features proceedings from the 35th Annual Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Convention in Dayton, Ohio. This recording captures moments from the annual awards banquet and then (at 00:03:11) the footage switches to the prayer breakfast held at the convention, which features Reverend Jesse Jackson as the keynote speaker. The prayer breakfast begins with remarks from SCLC President Joseph E. Lowery and then SCLC Board member Brady Tyson reads the annual resolutions of work developed by the SCLC. N.Q. Reynolds reads a report of the SCLC Nominating Committee. After musical performances and an introduction by Lowery, Jackson then comes to the podium to deliver his remarks. In his speech, Jackson reflects on the civil rights movement and the work that remains to be done to create social, economic, and political equity in America for Black Americans. The prayer breakfast concludes with closing remarks from Lowery, the singing of "We Shall Overcome", and a benediction. The video closes with candid footage of meeting attendees in a convention/vendor hall.
