- This audio recording features the SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. Luncheon held during the 27th Annual Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Convention in August 1984. This luncheon takes place in the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina in which Harvey B. Gantt, Mayor of Charlotte, proclaims August 13-19, 1984 as SCLC week in Charlotte and presents Joseph and Evelyn Lowery with the key to the city. At 00:35:20, Evelyn G. Lowery is presented with an orchid as the "First Lady of SCLC" and talks about being arrested for the first time during a PCB (Polychlorinated biphenyl) protest. At 00:46:22, lawyer and motivational speaker Patricia Russell-McCloud gives a speech, "What Time Is It?", in which she challenges Black women to use the present fight for political, economic, and social injustices. This audio recording concludes with singing and a benediction. Audio note: Distorted audio high background noise and high noise floor throughout recording playback.
