- This audio recording features proceedings from the 3rd Annual SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. Oratorical Contest on August 18, 1982 at New Pilgrimage Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Six high school students compete for a college scholarship by reciting self-written speeches on the theme: Black America: Let's Turn to Each Other and Not On Each Other Economically, Politically, and Spiritually. At 00:53:15, Reverend Fred Taylor leads participants in singing freedom songs and the "Fired Up" chant. This audio recording concludes with a speech from the final contestant of the 3rd Annual Oratorical Contest.
