Description:: This audio recording features a press conference in Italy in which Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) President Joseph E. Lowery and SCLC Board Chairman Walter E. Fauntroy are interviewed. Fauntroy speaks about racial discrimination, injustice, the meaning and intentions of non-violence being actions of morality to help independence of people and communities, protection of life, cause discomfort for change and discipline. At 00:12:45, Lowery speaks about how nonviolent movements impact public policy in education, transportation, racial discrimination, and the Voting Rights Act. Lowery also shares his experiences with nonviolently desegregating a restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee to emphasize how nonviolent efforts have positive impacts on public policy. This recording concludes with remarks from representatives of Italy.
