The recording opens with Southern Christian Leadership Conference President Joseph E. Lowery speaking to the crowd and then captures the audio of marchers as they walk from St. Jude Educational Institute to the Alabama State Capitol chanting and singing freedom songs. The recording then features various speakers on the steps of the Alabama State Capitol, beginning with a prayer offered by Reverend Thomas Jordan and including remarks by Evelyn G. Lowery, Montgomery County Commissioner John Knight, Alabama state representative Alvin Holmes, and Joseph E. Lowery. The recording (and this portion of the pilgrimage) ends with the singing of "We Shall Overcome". The Sacred Rights Pilgrimage march lasted one week and stretched 330 miles from Eufaula to Montgomery. The purpose of the march was to highlight the Black community's right to live and right to vote. Audio note: Distorted audio high background noise and high noise floor throughout recording playback; Inconsistent volume levels throughout recording playback.
