- This audio recording features proceedings from the National Conference on "Survival of the Black Family in the 80's" with a focus on the theme "The Black Male Child", sponsored by SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. on April 3, 1982 in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference consists of topical workshops addressing economics, education, health, criminal justice, media, and sexuality. The workshop panelists discuss the issues of poverty and unemployment, dropout rates, mobility, negative male role models in the media, and Black male relationships with Black women and debunking the "macho man" idea. Dr. Alyce Gullattee discusses the Black family and Black children and the work that needs to be done to fully support them. A speaker after Gullattee further explores the issues that Gullattee raised. Other conference speakers share their thoughts and ideas on the Black family.
