- Description:
- This audio recording features various events in Williamsburg, Virginia that were part of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's (SCLC) Pilgrimage to Washington. The first audio is from an event held at First Baptist Church, at which an unidentified woman speaks to the audience briefly and then after a song, Evelyn G. Lowery speaks about the pilgrims on the march (at 00:06:48). There is then audio of a rally held at the courthouse at which multiple speakers, including SCLC President Joseph E. Lowery, address the pilgrims about the fight for civil and voting rights. Audio after the conclusion of the rally captures Lowery answering questions about the Pilgrimage. At 00:36:45, the audio switches to a mass meeting at First Baptist Church, at which several speakers address the audience and also includes musical performances. The recording concludes with a person introducing Joseph E. Lowery to speak. Audio note: Inconsistent volume levels throughout recording playback.
