- This video features proceedings from the SCLC/WOMEN Luncheon during the 39th Annual Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Convention on August 13, 1996 in Detroit, Michigan. This video begins with a welcome from Evelyn G. Lowery, in which she speaks about women empowerment, getting out the vote, and unity. The luncheon focuses on the theme, "Men and Women United: Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century" and includes speeches from Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, Coretta Scott King, and panelists, live musical performances by Mavis Staples, and an awards ceremony. At 01:31:31, SCLC President Joseph E. Lowery presents SCLC/WOMEN with the "Madame C.J. Walker for Economic Empowerment" Award. This video concludes with the unveiling of the Detroit portion of "Stop the Killing, End the Violence" quilt.
