- Description:
- This video features proceedings from the "Invisible Giants of the Voting Rights Movement Coming Into View" women's conference held in Selma, Alabama on March 3-4, 1995. The conference was sponsored by The National Voting Rights Museum and SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. The purpose of the conference is to highlight the history and stories of unsung women in the civil rights movement. The recording beings with attendees singing, a brief commentary on "sheroes", and then various speakers come to the podium to speak toward the theme of the conference, that of identifying "invisible giants" of the civil rights movement. Civil rights activist Marie Foster is recognized for her work and then the program proceeds to a panel titled "Women of Color: Invisible Giants in the Suffrage Movement". The recording includes musical performances by children and concludes with remarks from Willie Barrow, the co-founder of Operation PUSH.
