- Description:
- This video features footage of various events that were part of the 30th Anniversary Selma to Montgomery March observance. The video opens with Southern Christian Leadership Conference President Joseph E. Lowery and an unidentified woman being interviewed in front of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church. At 00:06:44, the video switches to a worship service in a church that includes singing and a sermon delivered by Lowery. Lowery centers his remarks around "singing the Lord's song in a strange land" and how during this 30th anniversary recognition of the Selma to Montgomery March, we still find ourselves in strange land of political contradictions. The service continues with remarks from Selma Mayor Joseph Smitherman and the singing of freedom songs and then remarks from other service attendees, including Rose Sanders (now known as Faya Ora Rose Toure), James Orange, C.T. Vivian, and John Lewis.
