- This audio recording features an episode of the radio program Martin Luther King Speaks. Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Board Chairman Joseph E. Lowery delivers the keynote address at the 16th Annual SCLC Convention in August 1973. Lowery delivers a speech about SCLC's "moral responsibility" and obligation to fight for justice. Lowery encourages SCLC members to take on a new sense of "moral responsibility", help address poverty, elect moral politicians, and turn bad into good. Lowery challenges Black people to unite, love each other, and fight for justice. The episode concludes with a call for support and justice for 55,000 imprisoned men who refused to fight in the Vietnam War. Audio is muffled.
