- Description:
- This audio recording features a church service at Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The service proceedings include songs, a scripture lesson, affirmation of faith, and general remarks from Joseph E. Lowery (at 00:08:36), in which Lowery speaks about Nat Turner and leads the singing of "I'm Leaning On The Lord". At 00:15:02, Lowery delivers his sermon in which he references the sixteenth chapter of Matthew in which Jesus asked his disciples "Who do folks say I am?" to which the disciples replied, upon which Jesus responded "And who do you say I am?" This interaction led to Jesus telling Peter to get back behind him. This is the message that Lowery focuses his sermon on, the idea of "get back and let me think the thoughts of God". Audio note: Low volume throughout recording playback.
