Description:: This audio recording features a Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) mass meeting at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Aliceville, Alabama. The recording opens with attendees singing "Come By Here, My Lord", then Reverend R.B. Cottonreader briefly addresses the crowd and introduces another speaker. More songs and speakers are heard, including a reverend who offers a prayer before an unidentified woman speaks, thanking SCLC for their presence in Aliceville and commenting on the role the church has played in her life. Abraham Woods then introduces SCLC Board Chair Walter E. Fauntroy, who speaks to the Pickens County residents in attendance, stating "God will take care of you". Fauntroy also remarks on the continuing struggle for civil rights by Black people, providing a historical look at the impact of Reconstruction and Jim Crow on the Black community.
