- This audio recording features Joseph E. Lowery speaking at an event in Tuskegee, Alabama on a variety of topics, including commentary about Mayor Johnny Ford, the leadership of Southern Christian Leadership Conference staff member John Nettles, and his disappointment in the leadership of President Jimmy Carter. Lowery focuses his remarks around the subject of "coming home" to build back the Black community, turning away from "invidious individualism", and creating a sense of community and interdependence among Black people. Lowery calls for the Black community to come home to organize politically, combat racism, and continue the work of integration.
