Description:: This video features proceedings from the 38th Annual Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. This video begins with an acknowledgement of SCLC President Joseph E. Lowery, a musical and dance performance by the King Kids of Fort Worth, Texas, and a prayer to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. At 00:22:31, footage from a panel discussion begins with guest speaker Sister Ireland, who talks about affirmative action programs, equal job opportunities for people of color and women, and qualified workers. Ireland and other guest speakers encourage the audience to be politically empowered to run for public office and speak up against racial, political, and economic injustices to be equally included in the workforce and society. The video concludes with a question and answer session about affirmative action.
