Description:: This video features the 2nd Annual Dr. Calvin W. Rolark Sr. Memorial Luncheon on June 20, 1997 in Washington, D.C., in which Joseph E. Lowery is the keynote speaker. This luncheon honors the memory of Dr. Calvin W. Rolark, an activist, founder of the Washington Informer newspaper, and a member of the SCLC Board of Directors. The program includes speeches, musical performances, an awards ceremony, and a bid for airline tickets to support the United Black Fund organization. At 01:10:15, Joseph E. Lowery begins his speech by honoring Calvin W. Rolark and then speaks about how America is redefining who she is. Lowery challenges the community to participate in the defining moments of America by voting, fighting for peace, equity, and equality, and contributing to conversations and events regarding caring issues.
