- This audio recording features two episodes of Martin Luther King Speaks, a radio broadcast production by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The first episode opens with an excerpt from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Civil Rights At A Crossroads" speech, followed by Joseph E. Lowery's acceptance speech in 1977 upon assuming the presidency of the SCLC. Lowery speaks about continuing Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy, appoints Hosea Williams as Executive Director of SCLC, acknowledges SCLC board members, and expresses his appreciation for being chosen as president of the SCLC. At 00:29:23, the second episode of Martin Luther King Speaks begins. In this episode, Joseph E. Lowery delivers a sermon commemorating the 11th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1979. Lowery pays tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. by comparing him to the disciple Joseph in the Bible and speaks of King's ministry in the Black church.
