- Description:
- In this pamphlet, educator and pastor S. M. Thompson defines discrimination against his race and sounds the call to combat it. His impetus to write was fueled by anger involving an incident on a street car. He had been told to move, as he was sitting in the wrong section, according to Jim Crow laws. Rev. Thompson, mentioning how Frederick Douglass claimed his own freedom, wrote that his race wants to fight and must fight for theirs. He envisioned an organization what would allow people of color to join forces to combat discrimination while acknowledging the good work the NAACP was doing in meeting that goal. He concluded with practical ways to join the struggle, including the paying of poll taxes in order to vote. Cover title is Jimcrowism and the running title is Jim Crowism, etc.
