- Description:
- WSFA-TV's George Mitchell interviewing attorney Fred Gray in his law office in Montgomery, Alabama, about President Jimmy Carter's recent nomination of Judge Frank M. Johnson Jr. to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They discuss several of Johnson's landmark civil rights decisions (lawsuits that Gray had filed), as well as the possibility that Gray himself might be nominated to succeed Johnson as a U.S. District Court judge. (Due to health problems, Johnson did not serve at the FBI, but he was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1979. The same year, Carter nominated Fred Gray for a federal judgeship, but Gray ultimately withdrew his name from consideration.)
