Members of the crowd are chanting, "Fob Don't Care" and carrying signs that read, "Fob - 1980 / Old Football Head Injury Causes Permanent Dumbness!"; "Let's Go Forwards Not Backwards"; "Fob Waging 'Cold War' on Alabama's Poor"; and "Foolish Old Bigot" (with the first letter in each word written in red to spell "FOB"). Also included is footage of Reverend L. L. Anderson of Selma addressing the audience; a statement by Jon Ham, James's press secretary; and comments from a white organizer who stresses that "if we have to have three years of protests and demonstrations in this state, it will be a tremendous tragedy, but we stand prepared to work at that level if we have to." (After the rally, the governor met with black leaders in his office at the Capitol.
