- Description:
- Raw footage shot for "Wallace in the Midwest," a documentary produced by Charles Cox of WSFA-TV to describe Governor George Wallace's ten-day tour of Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in February 1964. Wallace made the trip to voice his opposition to the pending Civil Rights Bill of 1964 and to promote industrial development in Alabama. Included are speeches and statements delivered by Wallace and others on the tour; interviews with both his supporters and detractors; and scenes of civil rights demonstrators gathered outside the venues where Wallace appeared. The final segment of the film features interviews with three members of the Alabama press corps who accompanied the governor: Bob Ingram of the Montgomery Advertiser; Jack Hopper of the Birmingham News, and Bill Austin of the Huntsville Times.
