- He is seated on the ground, and a doctor from the Medical Committee for Human Rights (wearing a sign on his back that reads, "Doctor M.C.H.R.") is examining his leg. Meredith began the march on June 5 in Memphis, Tennessee, but was injured by gunshots shortly after setting out. He was not able to rejoin the march until June 25, the day before it ended in Jackson, Mississippi.
