- In 1962 the school (originally Van Buren High School) was renamed for Dr. McCoo, the only African American doctor in Eufaula. This image was taken for (but not used in) the article "'How Not to Desegregate the Schools--Without Really Trying'" by Mary Ellen Gale, which appeared on page 4 of The Southern Courier for November 27-28, 1965.
