- Description:
- From 1965 to 1968, Jelinek worked in Alabama and Mississippi as an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and as an attorney for the Lawyers Constitutional Defense Committee (LCDC). He defended Paul Bokulich, who had been arrested on a trumped-up charge of grand larceny. Bokulich and several others filed suit against the jury commission of Greene County because African Americans had been excluded from the local grand jury. This image was taken for (but not used in) the article "U.S. Judge Blocks Grand Jury Action" by Roberta Reisig, which appeared on page 5 of The Southern Courier for October 1-2, 1966.
