Sandra Colvin and Barbara Howard Flowers, staff members at the Southern Courier, are seated on the front row, second and third from the right, respectively. Stokely Carmichael addressed the audience during the meeting; he was arrested after shouting "Black Power!" at a passing police car. The incident was discussed in the article "For the People of Prattville" by Sandra Colvin and Franklin Howard, which appeared on page 1 of The Southern Courier for June 17-18, 1967.
