- To introduce the 1st Creek War to 4th grade students, show this hand drawn map of the Alabama Territory. Have students compare this map to a modern map and see what cities are now located on the same sites as Creek villages. Have students use sticky note tabs to color code and identify the historical sites of forts and villages on the modern map. Use one color to mark U.S. victories, i.e., destroyed villages. Direct students to brainstorm reasons for village and fort locations. Look for names that are similar to places in modern Alabama.
