- He is holding a map of Georgia and Alabama. Among the materials on the floor in front of him is a flier for the LCFO, also called the Black Panther Party. The flier reads "Is This the Party You Want? / Democratic Party of Alabama / Or This? / Lowndes County Freedom Organization / One Man - One Vote." The flier includes both the LCFO's panther and the Democratic rooster with its slogan "White Supremacy for the Right." The photograph was taken for an article ("With Independent Slate / Negro rights leader tries power play in Lowndes") that appeared on page 67 of the Birmingham News on April 27, 1966.
