- Description:
- "Montgomery, Ala.: Counsel for the NAACP ponders its next move in a contempt of court case directed against the Negro group for allegedly doing business in Alabama after it was outlawed from the state two years ago. In the center is Robert L. Carter, chief counsel for the NAACP from New York. He is flanked on the left by Arthur Shores of Birmingham and Fred Gray of Montgomery. The three attorneys failed to have the contempt case thrown out by Circuit Court Judge Walter B. Jones who banned the NAACP from Alabama June 1, 1956 for failure to register in the state as an out-of-state corporation."
