- Harold Franklin was the first black student to attend Auburn University. He enrolled in graduate school classes in January 2, 1964. Franklin is shown here registering for classes with Dr. Malcolm McMillan and Dean William Van Parker. On the left, standing next to the photographer is Neil O.
