- Laura Ray Young, mother of Urban League director Whitney Young, was the first African American postmistress in Kentucky and the second in the United States. She was the wife of Whitney M. Young, Sr. and the mother of Eleanor Young, Arnita Young Boswell, and Whitney Young, Jr.
