- Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1922, Douglas Albert Williams was a minister in Los Angeles, California when he was arrested for his participation in the Freedom Rides during the summer of 1961. As part of the Freedom Ride, Williams, along with nearly a dozen others, rode a Greyhound bus from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi where he was arrested on July 15, 1961.
