- Eugene John Uphoff was a nineteen year old student at the University of Minnesota when he was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi for his participation in a Freedom Ride. As part of the Freedom Ride, Uphoff and six others took a Greyhound bus from Nashville, Tenneseee to Jackson, Mississippi where they were arrested on 11 June 1961.
