Reverend Leon Felton Smith, Jr. was a thirty-one year old assistant pastor at Holiness Church of God in Cleveland, Ohio when he was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi for his participation in the Freedom Rides. As part of the Freedom Ride, Smith took a bus from Montgomery, Alabama to Jackson, Mississippi where he was arrested at the Trailways terminal in Jackson, Mississippi on 21 June 1961.
