- Biography:
- Milwaukee civil rights activist and leader Calvin Sherard founded a local chapter of the Negro American Labor Council (NALC) to challenge discrimination in labor unions during the late 1950s. During the 1960s, Sherard also organized local inquiry groups that investigated police brutality against African Americans, and boycotted local businesses that practiced employment discrimination against African American applicants.
