- "Arnold A. Schiffman Sr. was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on June 12, 1899. Affectionately known as 'Mr. A.,' in 1919 Schiffman took over the family business, Schiffman's Jewelry, located on South Elm Street. Schiffman's Incorporated is the oldest family-owned business in Greensboro and has expanded into a nationwide chain of jewelry stores. Schiffman was a member of Greensboro's Human Relations Commission, which was formed during the 1960s sit-ins. He also served as chairman of the board of Schiffman's Inc., president of the Retail Jewelers of America, president of the Greensboro Merchants Association, and president of the North Carolina Merchants Association. Schiffman was also District Governor of Rotary International, president of the Greensboro Rotary Club, and chairman of the Advisory Board of Guilford College. Arnold A.
