- Biography:
- Born on December 8, 1942 in New York City, Mario Savio was a philosophy student at University of California, Berkeley, when he became a principal organizer and spokesperson in the school's historic Free Speech Movement. In addition to his activism in California, Savio spent a summer in Mississippi championing civil rights. He spent his adult years teaching mathematics and philosophy at Sonoma State University. Savio died on November 6, 1996 at the age of 53.
