- Biography:
- CORE activist; Swarthmore, Columbia University Law School, and Union Theological Seminary graduate; and United Methodist minister. As the thirty-two year-old minister of New York City's Grace Methodist Church, he was part of the Interfaith Freedom Ride from Washington, D.C. to Tallahassee, Florida from June 13 to June 16, 1961. On August 28, 1962, Roy led a prayer pilgrimage in front of Albany, Georgia's city hall. He and over 70 lay people and clergy were arrested for their participation in the demonstration. Roy continued his activism over the years and on December 10, 2002, was arrested at the U.S. Mission to the U.N. during a protest against the coming invasion of Iraq.
