- Biography:
- Weldon Joseph Rougeau was born November 20, 1942 in Tyrone, Louisiana. Rougeau co-founded the Baton Rouge chapter of CORE and was arrested twice for his activities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1961 and was expelled from Southern University. He also registered African American voters in Louisiana and Florida and later worked with Vernon Jordan at the Voter Education Project and the United Negro College Fund.
