- Biography:
- Lawrence Ridgle was born during the height of the Great Depression and spent his childhood on Fayetteville Street in Durham, North Carolina. His father worked with the American Tobacco Company. Ridgle spent years in the Army, first serving as a noncommissioned officer over an all-black battalion in the army, and later presiding over one of the first integrated battalions during the early 1950s.
