- Biography:
- Alabama African American civil rights leader, restauranteur, and politician. Reed served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1970 to 1988 and 1995 to 1997. He and Fred D. Gray, Sr. were the first two African Americans elected to Alabama's legislature during the 20th century. Reed served as president of the Alabama NAACP from 1969 to 1979 and from 1985 to 1989.
