- Biography:
- Civil liberties lawyer and champion of civil right and liberal causes. Joseph Louis Rauh Jr. was born in Cincinnati on Jan. 3, 1911 and died in Washington, D.C. in September 1992. Rauh helped found Americans for Democratic Action in 1957 and served as a leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. His clients included the United Automobile Workers, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. He lobbied for passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
