- Biography:
- Oberlin College graduate, student activist, and civil rights worker. A member of the National Student Association, its national affairs vice president in 1961, and its liaison to the Students for a Democratic Society in 1962. Potter was elected a member of SDS's National Council during the 1963-1964 school year and served as the organization's president from 1964 to 1965. While covering a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) protest in McComb, Mississippi on October 11, 1961 for the National Student News, he and Tom Hayden were assaulted.
