- Biography:
- Retired civil engineer. Nelson participated in the Freedom Ride via the Illinois Central Railroad from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi on June 25, 1961 and was arrested in Jackson. Spouse of New Orleans CORE activist Patricia Smith, Nelson was active in the New York branch of CORE and in the Freedom Highways Project from 1962 to 1963. He was jailed in North Carolina in 1962. He was also active in anti-war activities.
