- Biography:
- William Patrick Murphy was a lawyer in the 1950s who fought segregation in letters, law journal articles, and his constitutional law class at the University of Mississippi by arguing for the wisdom of the Brown decision and against the states' rights rational common at the time. His support for integration put him under pressure from segregationists, and after a four-year struggle to keep his job, he left the University.--From Oral Histories of the American South biography.
