Biography:
Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi from 1937 to 1965. In 1962, he ruled that University of Mississippi's admission policy was legal as there was no evidence that it was based on segregation. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the decision, and the University of Mississippi admitted James Meredith.
