- Later head of SNCC, Washington, D.C., a SNCC field secretary in Mississippi in 1962, and a twenty-one year old Tennessee State University student, McKinnie rode a Greyhound bus from Nashville, Tennessee (via Memphis) to Jackson, Mississippi on May 28, 1961.
