- Biography:
- Galen Martin was a civil rights activist and human rights official in Kentucky. He served as executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights from 1963 to 1989 and was instrumental in the drafting and passage of a state civil rights law in 1966. In 1972, Mr. Martin was a lawyer for plaintiffs who sued the Louisville and Jefferson County school systems to force desegregation. He also helped draft the desegregation plan that resulted from the lawsuit. He also served as executive director of the Fair Housing Council in Louisville.
