- "Frances Herbin Lewis was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 8, 1942. She graduated from Dudley High School in 1959 and then attended North Carolina A&T State University, where she majored in architectural engineering. Lewis was active in the Woolworth and Kress sit-ins of 1960 and the cafeteria and theater demonstrations in 1962 and 1963.
